The Official Poker Rules for the World Series of Poker

Rules & Definitions

Poker is a card game in which the players compete to create the best poker hand possible. It is a popular form of gambling, and can be played with any number of people. The basic cards are dealt face down, and players may bet or raise money. The game uses a standard 52-card pack, sometimes with jokers added.

Table Organizing and Seating

The game of poker is played on a table with two positions: the button and the small blind. A player in the button position receives the first two cards, and the small blind gets the third.

Players in these two positions have to make forced bets of a specified amount before the cards are dealt. These bets are called the ante, and they must be posted before a hand begins.

A dealer, also known as a “poker dealer,” seats and deals cards to the players. The dealer deals a card to each player in turn, and this order changes clockwise after every deal.

Cards are dealt by a dealer, and the ranking of suits is spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs. The suit of a card determines whether it breaks a tie.

If a deck of cards is not shuffled before the next hand is dealt, it is considered dead. This is to prevent cheating or collusion between players.

Using a Cell Phone

The use of a cell phone is prohibited during WFP finals, and must be removed from the table when in the tournament area. This is to help protect the integrity of the poker tournament and avoid any misunderstandings.
