Maryland Sportsbooks Go Live With Their Official Betting Licenses

The legalization of sports betting in Maryland took a step closer to reality today. Today at 9am ET, seven sportsbooks went live. These are all part of the state’s anticipated rollout of nearly 100 skins by the start of the NFL season.

HB 940, passed by the Maryland legislature in December 2018, would legalize sports betting in the state in both in-person and online form. It also allowed for an initial 40 retail licenses and 60 online ones. This number will grow by two more licenses each year.

On September 22, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) issued its final guidelines for the state’s licensing process. In addition, the agency announced that it has approved 17 sportsbooks.

Currently, there are 17 licensed online sportsbooks in Arizona. Most of them offer promotions and bonuses.

Arizona sports gambling has been legal since September 2021. HB 2772 was signed into law by Governor Doug Ducey. Until now, gambling companies had been barred from partnering with the NBA. However, DraftKings and the UFC recently signed a groundbreaking agreement.

This partnership will allow for in-game promotions and odds generation. In addition, DraftKings will become the official daily fantasy partner for the UFC. They’ll be able to use the official UFC marks and logos.

With this in mind, expect to see plenty of promotions at Maryland sportsbooks. For example, some of the top apps will offer a bigger welcome bonus, a bigger bonus for the first time bets, and a daily odds boost. Some sites may even provide site credits or refunds.
